Sarcopyramis sp. Sumatra Blue

Sarcopyramis sp. Sumatra Blue is an exceptionally rare and highly iridescent species from the Melastomataceae family, native to the lush forests of Sumatra, Indonesia. This striking plant is prized for its velvety foliage that shimmers with an electric, holographic blue when the light hits just right. It is truly a living gem for any collector.

To thrive, Sarcopyramis sp. demands ultra-high humidity (97% and above), consistently warm temperatures, and low, indirect light. It’s best suited for a sealed terrarium or a humidity-controlled environment. Although propagation is straightforward via stem cuttings, this species is a very slow grower, making availability extremely limited.

The plant offered here is a well-established and much larger specimen than I have listed in the past. Due to its care requirements, this plant is recommended for experienced growers familiar with tropical begonias and other delicate terrarium species. This is the last one I will have available for at least a couple of months!

*The photos were taken with flash to show it’s incredible iridescence!
